The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced the opening of nominations for the vacant Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat.
The seat became vacant following the death of NPP’s Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko who was the Member of Parliament for the constituency.
A statement issued by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC’s General Secretary, said picking of nominations to contest for the seat starts today, Monday 17th to Tuesday 18th December, 2018.
Persons interested in contesting for the seat are expected to file their nomination by Friday with the hopefuls undergoing vetting on Saturday 22nd Dec. 2018.
An election will be held on Friday 28th December 2018 to choose a candidate who will lead the NDC into the by-elections.
The cost of nomination forms and filing fees as provided for in Section D, sub section 2 and 3 of the Guidelines for the Parliamentary primaries is GH₵1,000.00 (One Thousand Ghana Cedis) and GH₵10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis) respectively, with a 50% discount on the Filing fees for females and Persons with Disability.
All prospective aspirants are encouraged to pick their nomination forms from the Constituency Secretariat between 9:00am to 5:00pm each day, the statement said.
The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, had earlier suggested to his party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political parties that they should not put up a candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat for the upcoming by-election to replace Mr. Agyarko.
Ras Mubarak said, “we should have an agreement amongst ourselves that if a sitting MP dies, the party from which he was an MP should select a candidate to serve his remaining term.”
Meanwhile, there seems to be disagreement within the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over who to replace the deceased legislator.
Earlier this month, two groups of people from within the party launched vigorous campaigns for two of Mr. Agyarko’s wives to contest.

Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Concerned Constituents of Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra Region, have declared their unflinching support for Mr. Rocky Joojo Obeng to become their next Member of Parliament.
“Joojo as we call him is currently the Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA), and he is one of us, and has lived with us here in the constituency for over 20 years” the group said in a statement.
According to them, Mr. Obeng has his private businesses in the constituency, and knows very well the challenges theyface.
