A non-governmental organization (NGO), Women’s Health to Wealth (WHW), has donated 102 units of Digital Blood Pressure Monitoring Devices to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The donation according to the organization, was in response to a request made by management of the hospital to secure funds and equipment to improve the quality of service rendered to the over 10 million people who depend on the referral facility for health care services.
Digital monitors are more popular for measuring blood pressure. They often are easier to use than aneroid units. The digital monitor has a gauge and stethoscope in one unit. It also has an error indicator. The blood pressure reading displays on a small screen. This may be easier to read than a dial. Some units even have a paper printout that gives you a record of the reading.
Executive Director for Women’s Health to Wealth, Abenaa Akuamoah Boateng, said the 102 units of the device worth $11,220, is a widow’s mite from her organization to aid quality health delivery at the hospital.
She said they also added 144 battery packs for the device.
“As an NGO, our interest is the quality health delivery in our hospitals and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as a referral facility serves a number of patients not only from the Ashanti Region, but also Ghana as a whole. So Women’s Health to Wealth is giving its widow’s mite through the donation of digital blood pressure monitoring device,” she said.
She also pledged the organization’s continuous support for quality healthcare delivery in health facilities across Ghana.
Receiving the items on behalf of management, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KATH, Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, commended the organization for the donation, and gave the assurance that the hospital will take good care of the device.
He called on other organizations to support the hospital’s vision of enhancing and delivering quality healthcare services to Ghanaians.
