Victory Land Academy, a basic school located at Koforidua Anlo-Town in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region, has been adjudged among top five schools in a competition organised by Opportunity EduFinance.
The school took part in a Pathway to Excellence (P2E) competition which was open to schools in Africa, aimed at helping schools to institute a well-structured educational format to serve as a guide to improve upon their performance in both teaching and learning.
Out of the schools assessed based on their own priority areas indicated in the P2E guidelines, Victory Land Academy came fifth behind their Ghanaian counterparts Best Brain School in the Ashanti Region, and behind 3 schools from Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
Presenting a cheque for a cash prize of $ 1,000 dollars, a shield and certificate of participation to authorities of the school, the local Coordinator for the program, Madam Doris Adanu, challenged authorities of the school to sustain the gains made in properly structuring the school.
“You have made us proud for this achievement, you chose your areas, structured them and you successfully executed your plans according to the guidelines and you deserve this.”
In an interview with Citi News, Madam Doris Adanu called on all schools to ensure proper planning and structuring.
“I will advise schools which failed to meet the standards to up their game, sit down with various stakeholders and plan their schools well. They have to get a development plan, assess the school, engage multi-stakeholders and make sure the institute programs to build the capacity of teachers through seminars, refresher courses and training to sharpen their skills for them to be innovative and improve upon their teaching and management skills”.
“A school in Rwanda won 5,000 dollars, another school in Uganda also won 2,000 dollars, so I will be glad Ghanaian schools will also win the topmost prize in the next competition”.
School authorities who could not hide their joy called on parents to also support efforts of teachers and school management by assisting the school kids with their homework, providing for them and taking keen interest in their education.
