Toyota Ghana Limited has entered into a partnership with the University of Ghana for the development of a multipurpose workshop and a training centre for the University community.
The project partnership agreement is on a design, finance, build and operate basis.
The event held at the University of Ghana saw in attendance the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Tsutomu Himeno, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Owusu Oduro , the Managing Director of Toyota Ghana Limited, Takuya Kajiura as well as senior university faculty members and some officials from Toyota Ghana.
Speaking at the event, the Japan Ambassador to Ghana commended Toyota Ghana Limited for the project.
According to him, the training centre workshop will go a long way to support the capacity building of students of the University of Ghana, adding that it is essential too for Ghana’s development.
“I am very happy… The reason why I am here as a Japanese Ambassador is not only to support excellent Japanese company which continues to support the capacity building and development of the wonderful engineers of this University and of Ghana which is crucial to the development of this country.”
On his part the Managing Director of Toyota Ghana Limited explained that the construction of the workshop and training centre will further deepen Ghana, Japan relations which has existed since independence, adding that the partnership has led to industrial development in Ghana.
He was of the view that industry and academia can work to bridge the development gap in the country.
Mr. Takuya Kajiura also commended all the stakeholders who worked to ensure the success of the partnership.
Monumental partnership agreement
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Owusu-Oduro described the partnership agreement as the most monumental agreement for the Institute of Applied Science and Technology at the University of Ghana.
According to him, the agreement will mutually benefit both parties involved in the partnership agreement.
“I think we have been making some tremendous progress but what we witnessed here today is the highlight of that single move [The establishment of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology] some years back. This is the most monumental agreement that we have had to make sure that students benefit from industry and industry also benefits from student development…”
