The National Road Safety Commission is calling on management of Citi TV to extend the War Against Indiscipline Campaign to the Eastern Region.

The request comes on the back of the increased number of road accidents seen in the region.

According to the Commission which lauded the efforts of Citi TV for championing the campaign said, when introduced in the Eastern Region and pushed strongly, it will not only end indiscipline but help save lives and properties.

Abdullai Bawa, the Eastern Regional Director of the Road Safety Commission in an interview with Citi News called on Citi TV to introduce the campaign in other regions.

“If there was any word more than perfect, I would describe the war against indiscipline campaign that Citi TV is doing as such and we wish that it doesn’t end in Accra but it should be scaled up to other regions,” he said.

“When you watch how it is done, the time the offences are committed, the arrest by the police and how they follow up to the courts to come back and tell us how much is raking into government coffers is very amazing and we wish people in other regions especially the Eastern Region will have our share one of these days to ensure that road users are doing the right thing”.

Mr Abdullai Bawa also pleaded with other media houses to adopt or join Citi TV’s campaign on the War Against Indiscipline to help reduce carnage on roads.

“I’m hoping that it is not going to be a one time event but Citi TV will continue with it. And we call on other media houses to emulate what Citi TV is doing and pick it up for effective enforcement of road traffic regulations. It will help offenders to turn a new leaf for everyone to see that the stakeholders in road safety including the police are effectively working and we will achieve results which will bring down not only indiscipline but reduce the carnage on our roads”.

NSRC law approved

The National Road Safety Authority Bill has been approved by Parliament to transform the Commission into an Authority.

The law, if assented to by President Nana Akufo-Addo, will transform the National Road Safety Commission into an Authority to better regulate activities in the road transport sector.

The Commission believes that the change of status will empower it to play a major role in coordinating and ensuring safety on our roads.

Citi TV began the War Against Indiscipline in May 2019 with a few of exposing the wrongs on the roads and also put pressure on duty bearers to sanitize the road transport system in the country.

So far the campaign has helped to punish a number of recalcitrant who flout traffic regulations with impunity.
