The Association of Graduates in Skills Development-Ghana says that government appointees that have exceeded the legal working age are limiting the number of younger professionals that can join the job market.
Citing Article 119 (1) of the 1992 constitution the association reiterated that 60 is the legal retirement age in the country and urged public sector professionals who have exceeded this age to advise themselves accordingly.
Isaac Osei, the Director of TOR and Kwamena Bartels, the Board Chairman of Goil are examples of older professionals, the association stated.
Desmond Bress Biney, President of the Association voiced some of the members’ key concerns.
“Adults who instead of being a motivation to the youth are rather speaking for their self-interest so they don’t want to leave the various positions that they have enjoyed for some time,” Biney said.
Mr. Biney also emphasized the association’s desire for the government to address their concerns.
“We are calling on the president as a matter of urgency to sack all these individuals so that fresh people can be put there,” said Biney.
