The Bechem Central Mosque in the Tano South Municipality of Ahafo Region has been closed down to prevent a possible violent clash between Hausas and some Moslem youth in Bechem Zongo.
A letter announcing the closure sighted by Citi News read: “The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of the Tano South Municipal Assembly wishes to inform you that, for security reasons, the Bechem Central Mosque has been temporarily closed for prayers from today and any other day until further notice.”
The Tano South Municipal Security Council took the decision on Friday having picked intelligence that the two groups were gearing up to engage in a clash.
The two factions have been disputing over a parcel of land in the area for some time now.
The mosque will therefore not be opened for Friday Jummah prayers and other prayers until the security situation improves.
