A Security Analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye (retired) is calling for stringent measures to ensure the security of police officers.
Five police officers have died in the line of duty within a month.
The killings started in the Northern Region with the murder of Sergeant Agartha Nabin by gunmen with the recent one being the killing of two officers at Gomoa Budumburam.
Though some arrests have been made, Colonel Festus Aboagye said immediate action must be taken before the situation causes panic amongst the public.
“Criminals are also smart so if they see police accosting them, it makes it easier to shoot at the police officer although they should not be doing that so the recruitment, the leadership, the training becomes a national or state responsibility. All of these are factors and they require that there is a thorough appraisal of the profile of the police and how we can capacitate them to actually do the work they are supposed to do.”
So far three suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of the officers at Gomoa Budumburam.
Police in the Central Region also said efforts are being made to arrest a fourth suspect in connection with the crime.
The vehicle involved in the crime has been impounded to help with police investigations.
While the Central Regional Police Commander, Paul Manly Awini condemns the dastardly act describing it as an unfortunate incident.
He has also indicated that three liaison officers have also been appointed to be a link between the police and the families.
