One of the aspirants contesting to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi constituency in the Northern Region, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, has called for unity amongst his fellow contestants.
He said unity amongst them is key in the run-up to general elections and striving to lead the party should not be a matter of division and insulting one another.
Alhaji Farouk is in the race with two other aspirants; the deputy CEO for the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abibata Mahama Zakaria, and Baba Daney, a former accountant.
After going through the vetting process, Alhaji Farouck called on the aspirants to conduct their campaigns in a decent manner devoid of insults and acrimony.
He pledged to support whoever emerges the winner at the primaries saying they are all working for the collective betterment of their people and not individual.
“I want to call on my contenders for us to be United before, during and after the primaries. I am ready to support anyone who wins. I know we are all in the race for the betterment and development of our people and we must not allow ourselves to be divided.”
Alhaji Farouk, the son of the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, also says he is determined and targeting to increase NPP votes in Yendi by 10,000 votes in the general elections in December.
He added now that Dagbon is peaceful there is the need for everyone to come on board for the development of the kingdom.
“Peace is very important and we must embrace it and avoid things that we do to let other people talk about us. Let’s not undermine our kingdom.”
He further cautioned the youth especially to be disciplined and peaceful and do not allow themselves to be used in fomenting troubles.
“I want to use this opportunity to send a word of caution to our brothers and sisters that the future is bright for us and we must not allow ourselves to be agents of destruction. Tell anyone who comes to you to go and cause trouble to bring their family member, please remember Dagbon is all we have especially Yendi and we must develop it.”
