Officials of the Ghana Education Service in the Ashanti Region have admonished headteachers of Junior High Schools to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols as schools reopen on Monday.
Final year JHS students across the country are returning to school to prepare and write their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This is part of the partial reopening of Tertiary institutions, Senior and Junior High Schools.
Officials during the handing over of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) received from Central Government to heads of Junior High Schools in the region urged strict enforcement of safety measures.
The items include; 8,216 Veronica buckets, 7,047 thermometer guns, 16,432 pieces of bottled soap, 16432 pieces of tissue papers, and 148,575 pieces of sanitizers.
The items were distributed to all basic schools in the Region through the 43 Metropolitan/Municipal/ District Education Directorates.
Ashanti Regional Director for GES, Mary Owusu Afriyie urged all school heads to follow laid down protocols to contain further spread of COVID 19.
She said “Due to the current situation, you will agree with me that we are not in normal times. So, the reopening of schools at this time should not be seen as the usual thing. We should all try as much as we can to strictly adhere to all the protocols outlined by the President for the reopening of our schools.”
Regional Public Relations Officer(PRO) for the GES, Mark Ofori told journalists the Directorate will intensify monitoring of all schools to ensure compliance.
He indicated that the Directorate will continue to support the Government’s efforts in containing the further spread of the virus.
