Traditional Authorities at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have charged the government to make efforts to settle the long-standing land dispute between them and Gomoa Fetteh.
They argued that they will not vote if the government fails to intervene in the matter.
The group said land guards have taken advantage of the dispute and have taken over their land fomenting trouble.
“It has always been in the news that authorities from both sides have clashed over a land dispute. And the resultant effect is that land guards have taken over the place. And this is creating fear and panic in the area and I think it is time for the government to settle the dispute,” stool secretary, Emmanuel Awotwe told Citi News.
“We have decided not to vote if the government fails to stamp its authority on the matter since we are all Ghanaians and will vote based on what benefits us as an authority,” the stool secretary said.
The stool secretary noted that landowners have been forced to leave their land for fear of being attacked by these land guards.
He pointed accusing fingers at Gomoa Fetteh who they are in dispute with over a land.
“Individuals we sold lands to have been forced to vacate their land because of these land guards and it has become difficult for us as a traditional authority. It is not proper for us to be on our land and be treated as slaves. We have decided to prevent the assembly from taking revenue in Nyanyano if the government fails to intervene,” Emmanuel Awotwe noted.
Public Relations Officer for the stool, Franky Awotwe Otoo told Citi News that the Gomoa Nyanyano stool is independent of Gomoa Fetteh and thus the need for it to have the right to register and sell land.
“We are independent and don’t think there is the need for land guards on our land. The court is here to settle disputes and that is what we want,” Franky Awotwe Otto said.
