The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will announce a replacement for its parliamentary candidate for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency Abu Kamara who passed on Friday, October 16, 2020, by close of this week.
According to the party, consultations have begun in earnest to find his replacement.
The Savannah Regional Chairman of the party, Sulemana Iddrisu said this in a Citi News interview after observing the three days funeral rites of the late parliamentary candidate in Larabanga.
“The sudden demise of Abubakar has affected me personally. We will organise ourselves and work towards victory in 2020. The party will announce his replacement within 10 days, and we should be expecting announcement by end of the week and processes have started to get the replacement.”
“We are looking for a dedicated person like the deceased and a hardworking person.”
Meanwhile, the District Chief executive (DCE) for Central Gonja, Mustapha Mahama who lost to Abu Kamara in the party’s primaries said he will support anyone the party settles on as a candidate.
“Yes, of course, it’s going to affect the party in Yapei Kusughu. He has made a whole lot of inroads since he was elected as the parliamentary candidate for the constituency and everything has gone back but we will do our best to capture the seat in his honour.”
“I want the seat captured but not me as a replacement. I am ready to support fully whoever the party chooses to replace him.”
