Renowned human rights lawyer who doubles as the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for the Madina constituency, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has donated a total of 1,500 textbooks covering mathematics, science and English to schools within the La Nkwantanang Madina municipality.
The beneficiary schools include the Pantang Methodist Basic School, Oyarifa Presby Basic School, Ayi Mensah Basic School, Danfa Methodist Basic School, Madina Fire Amour, and Umar Budu Hatab in Madina West.
Speaking briefly to the media, Mr. Sosu made it clear that education was very key on his agenda for Madina hence the gesture.
He recounted how education changed his life from a street child to a celebrated human rights and public interest lawyer.
He added that, as part of his educational plans for the municipality, he will replace all blackboards in the public schools with white marker boards and frequently supply the schools with markers.
He also said he will establish an educational scholarship scheme for needy but brilliant students.
“For the motivation and encouragement of the teacher, I shall introduce a special annual awards scheme for teachers within the municipality as well,” Mr. Sosu noted.
Both teachers and pupils showed appreciation to Mr. Sosu for the gesture and wished him well in his aspiration to represent the constituency in Parliament.
The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Angela Nkansah Frempomaa, also commended Mr. Sosu for his effort and urged others would emulate his good example.
