The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Ellembele constituency in the Western Region, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has won the seat for the fourth time with a margin of over 8,000 votes.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembele, Kwasi Bonzoh, who contested on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against Mr. Buah for the third time, could only manage 23,869 votes against the incumbent MP’s tally of 32,053.
Speaking to Citi News after he was declared the winner of the parliamentary slot, Mr. Buah said his opponent failed to tout his achievements during the campaign, hence his loss.
“Somebody who has challenged me for three times already, all he could have as his campaign message is how long I have been an MP. So he goes around asking people to retire me. Looking at me, do I look like someone who must be retired? At the moment we are only praying for John Mahama to win the Presidency. We used to have 106 parliamentary seats as NDC but right now we have around 140 seats which means we are getting the majority in parliament. We have now taken Ellembele, Evalue-Gwira and Jomoro seats. We are now going to do more including tarring of roads from Ellembele South to the North, we will bring a new port to the area,” he said.
He, however, said Ghanaians are yearning for change; not just based on the superior records of the NDC, but also to rescue the country from the failures of the incumbent government. The former Energy Minister told Citi News this election is a different election.
“This election has to do with Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP government promising the people of Ghana industries that were unprecedented, but never built even one. This election is about Nana Addo who preaches a corruption-free country, and has basically engulfed the country with corruption. This election is about Nana Akufo-Addo who had preached unity, but has divided this country. This election is about bringing the people of Ghana together; it’s about basically turning our economy around. It’s about the uncertainty of the coronavirus and the leadership that’s needed to assure all of us. It’s about jobs for the youth of this country.” he added.
