Savannah Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has congratulated President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his re-election.
In a statement, the Regional Chairman, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana also known as Professor Kalamonia said Nana Akufo-Addo’s victory is well-deserved.
He further encouraged residents of the region to expect more infrastructural development in the next four years.
The NPP succeeded in winning three seats in the Savannah Region which is the homeland of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Out of the seven constituencies, the NPP flipped Damongo, Daboya-Mankarigu and Salaga North constituencies compared to the one seat (Salaga South) the party won in 2016.
The newly elected Members of Parliament are Samuel Abdulai Jinapor for the Damongo constituency, Alhassan Abdullah Iddi for Salaga North and Alhaji Mahama Asei Seini for Daboya-Mankarigu.
This is the first time in Ghana’s electoral processes since 1992, the New Patriotic Party has won both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in the Daboya/Mankarigu constituency.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo beat John Dramani Mahama by 1,981 votes in the Daboya-Mankarigu constituency.
The Regional Chairman in an interview described the outcome as unprecedented and commended the electorate for what he described as “Thank you” votes to the NPP.
According to him, since independence, residents of Gonjaland clamoured for sovereignty which Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration finally made possible in 2018.
He said the party would grow from strength to strength to win all seven parliamentary seats in subsequent elections.
Daboya-Mankarigu is the Regional Chairman, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana alias Kalamonia’s hometown.
Reaction to NDC’s news conference
In a rebuttal to the NDC’s threat to cause bloodshed in the region if John Dramani Mahama was not declared winner of the 2020 presidential election, the NPP regional secretariat called the bluff of the NDC and demanded a retraction and an unqualified apology to the citizens.
The Regional Communications Director, Mohammed Issah in a statement asked politicians to be civil in their utterances and conduct.
“The Savannah Regional NPP under the watch of Professor Kalamonia will not allow for the blood of any single individual to be spilled, especially in the name of a desperate Politician as Candidate Mahama who failed to simply develop his own home. No one shall be killed because Candidate Mahama lost woefully in his attempt to become a president again.”
“Let it be known that the region is a peaceful one under the able leadership of Yagbonwura Tumtumba Boresa I and his grandchildren and no one should dare try our patience. We shall resist any deviant in the Region.”
“The electoral victory of H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and his NPP in the Savannah Region was worked for. The President and his party sacrificed their selfish stomachs for the development of our dear Region. This is what Former President Mahama failed to do for his years of electoral glory from us,” he emphasized.
