The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited (TCCBCGL), a subsidiary of the Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company (ECCBC), has made a third contribution of GHS 373,999 to the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund.
The company, in November 2020, made its first contribution of GHS 113,430 and a second of GHS 258,526 in February 2021. These donations, just like the third, were proceeds from a consumer support campaign, Open Like Never Before, where for the sale of each bottle of 1.5L Coca-Cola, Fanta or Sprite, 10 pesewas was remitted to the fund.
Managing Director of ECCBC – West African Countries Business Unit, Mr. Felix Gomis, presenting the cheque at the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre at the Ga East Hospital, commended the trustees of the fund for staying committed to this private sector-led initiative of supporting the fight against COVID-19. “As an organization that is devoted to human welfare, we are constantly driven by the passion to endorse initiatives that protect human life. We are committed to this partnership and will lend our support especially in times like this where partnership is critical to winning the fight against the pandemic. We appreciate our loyal consumers who have over the period, made these donations possible by patronizing our products”, he added.
The campaign, which was originally set to end in June 2021, has been extended to the end of the year. This decision was informed by the need to do more in support of the fight against the pandemic, said Mr. Gomis.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the trustees of the Private Sector Fund, Mr. Senyo Hosi, the Managing Trustee, expressed his appreciation to the company for the kind gesture and urged the public to keep supporting Coca-Cola to undertake such impactful endeavours.
The Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, through contributions from the private sector and other benevolent individuals, constructed a 100-bed infectious disease centre at the Ga East Hospital in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, the facility has been providing treatment to patients afflicted with infectious disease.
