The Ghana Fire Service has doused the fire that gutted one of the buildings of the Ghana Rubber Product Limited around the STC transport yard.
The fire, which started around 7:2am on Friday, September 24, 2021, affected the storeroom of the company, damaging materials and equipment used in the production of rubber packs.
According to one of the workers, one of the materials we use to manufacture rubber packs caught fire.
“So the fire extended to other parts of the building. We all panicked so we quickly rushed out of the building,” he said.
“We were working when we heard some of our colleagues screaming that there was a fire outbreak. Most of our materials were affected by the fire,” he added.
A worker with the company who sustained minor injuries is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
“In the course of fighting the fire, part of the roof caved in, and one casualty was recorded,” the Accra Regional Fire Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer 1, Alhaji Nuhu Jibril told Citi News.
The fire service officers were on the scene of the fire at about 7:37 am to fight the blaze, a minute after the distress call, according to the officer.
“Within 20 minutes we were able to bring the fire under control,” the fire officer added.
He further commended the company for the availability of fire hydrants which made it easier to douse the fire and entreated other companies to ensure they have fire hydrants for fire emergency purposes.
