The District Chief Executive for Atewa East in the Eastern Region, Kwabena Nkansah, has assured residents of Asamang Tamfoe of the government’s resolve to address their concerns regarding mining activities in the area.
Speaking to Citi News, he said he expected them to wait on communication from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
“It is a concern they have to raise with the Minister [of Lands and Natural Resources] and the Minerals Commission. As I sit here, what I can do is to inform the minister and the process is what I told them they can do, which they have done.”
“So if there is anything, then they should wait for a response from the minerals commission or the minister of Natural resources,” the DCE said.
“We have taken their matter up, and we have dealt with it, and they still decided they want to organise a press conference. We have allowed them.”
On Monday, scores of residents in the area took to the streets and held a press conference in protest of the implementation of community mining and all forms of mining in the area, in a bid to protect their farmlands and water bodies.
