A 46-year-old man, Musah Yussif, has been lynched for allegedly shooting six persons at a funeral on Thursday evening in the Agric electoral area in the Tamale metropolis of the Northern Region.
One of the six persons who were shot has been confirmed dead by the police, while the remaining five are receiving treatment at the Tamale teaching hospital.
Speaking to Citi News, the regional crime officer, Bernard Baba Ananga explained that, the young man who fired the gun attended a sub-chief’s funeral, which was held in the electoral area.
While at the funeral, an altercation ensued between Musah Yussif and one sub-chief known as Kanbongnaa.
Musah Yussif then left the scene and returned with a gun and began to shoot into the crowd, injuring five persons, with one dead.
The regional crime officer, Bernard Baba Ananga, said police are “investigating to find those persons responsible for lynching the said person.”
Meanwhile, the assemblyman for the area, Mohammed Murtala said the community is in shock following the incident.
“That is the first time the community is experiencing something like that,” Mr. Murtala said.
He, however, said, “tensions are down and everybody is waiting to hear what will come out from the investigation.”
