The prison officer who accidentally shot himself at the High Court in Accra on Wednesday is responding to treatment according to the Ghana Police Service.
The officer after shooting himself in the foot while on duty at the criminal division of the High Court was initially admitted to the Clinic of the High Court in Accra but was later transferred to the Police hospital.
According to the Prison Service, although preliminary investigations into the incident have been concluded, it is awaiting the full recovery of the officer involved to determine the next line of action.
Chief Superintendent of Prisons, Courage Atsem, speaking for the Ghana Prisons Service said; “Our preliminary investigation shows that the shooting was an accidental one. However, the ballistic unit of the service will conduct a thorough investigation on the matter. He is currently responding to treatment, and he is out of danger. When he is stabilized and healthy, we will engage him.”
On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, a prison officer shot himself in the foot while on escort duty to the Criminal Court 5 Division of the Accra High Court.
It is however unclear what triggered the shooting.
