The office of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has cleared the air on the speculations made about the Speaker’s medical travels which is to them an exaggeration.
A statement from the Speaker’s office, issued by the Public Affairs Directorate, titled ‘Speaker’s travel-the bare facts’ informs the publication on the fact that the Speaker traveled with his children on his medical trip to Dubai is false.
“The Rt. Honourable did not travel with his children as it is being alleged by the media. Indeed, Mr. Speaker has never included his children in any of his trips.”
The statement further expressed concerns on why the Speaker’s travels keep coming up as an issue of public interest, particularly on the expenses involved.
“What is intriguing is the focus on Mr. Speaker’s travels and the effort at exaggerating the cost. Meanwhile, there is complete silence on the travels of the other Members of Parliament, the frequency of which is higher than that of Mr. Speaker.”
“The public is advised to see in such publications the political mischief that is intended and ignore such publications with the contempt they deserve.”
