Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee and Member of Parliament for the Builsa South constituency in the Upper East Region, Clement Apaak says the Education Committee will ensure the University of Ghana respects an injunction against the institution’s new residential policy.
Responding to questions arising from the Speaker of Parliament’s decision to refer the current UG residential debacle to the Education Committee, Mr. Apaak said the Vandals Caucus does not agree with the new directive because it has left many students of the university stranded.
The new residential policy directs that continuing students are supposed to occupy other halls apart from the Commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah halls to make way for level 100 and graduate students.
The Builsa South lawmaker expressed delight on Eyewitness News on Citi FM that the matter has finally been referred to the Education Committee of Parliament by the Speaker to “find out why the University’s Management has failed to respect the court order.”
Mr. Apaak underscored the need to amicably resolve the accommodation challenges to save the young student population.
