The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that five suspected land guards have been shot and five weapons recovered in an anti-robbery and land guard operation conducted at Bortianor in Accra on June 8, 2023.
In a statement signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Director of Public Affairs, Grace Ansah-Akrofi noted the individuals had been terrorizing residents and landowners in Bortianor and nearby communities.
According to the Police, the suspects, who were hiding, initiated gunfire as a police team approached leading to an exchange of fire. Consequently, five suspects sustained injuries and were later pronounced dead at the hospital. The remaining suspects managed to escape and are currently evading capture.
A Police statement revealed that evidence recovered from the crime scene includes one AK47 assault rifle, along with ten rounds of AK47 ammunition, a pump-action gun with nine rounds of BB cartridges, two pistols with ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, an unregistered Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, four motorbikes (three of which are unregistered), a knife, and a pepper spray.
The police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects, some of whom are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the operation.
