The 1988-year group of the Presbyterian Boys’ School (PRESEC), Legon, has made a generous donation of GHC28,000 to Citi FM/Citi TV’s #Relief4LowerVolta campaign following the spillage of the Akosombo dam.
Presenting the donation on the Citi Breakfast Show, the group said, “We all know about the spillage and its effects on people downstream. As a body, we thought it wise to contribute to the great efforts that Citi FM/Citi TV is making to improve the lives of those who have been severely affected. We came together as a group to put some money together.”
“Today, being the day after our victory [National Science and Maths Quiz], we thought it proper to donate today. So that we will also be contributing to the good works others are doing, as individuals and as a group, the 1988-year group of PRESEC.”
Yara Ghana Limited donates GHC50,000 and items to #Relief4LowerVolta
In a move to eradicate hunger in the affected communities, Yara Ghana Limited also donated GHC50,000 and some items including tubers of yam, clothing, and stationery materials.
Theresa Randell, the lead representative of Yara Ghana, stated that the monies were collected from their staff who were touched by the devastating situation in the Lower Volta. She highlighted the effects of the spilling of the dam on farmers who are under the Yara programme.
“This [spilling] has been something that has shocked the entire Yara business, obviously you know we have a lot of farmers in the Volta Region. Yara’s vision is especially about having a collaborative society, a world without hunger, and the planet’s respect. This is something that energized us as a group and as a society here in Ghana. All our employees have actually contributed the money that we have brought here.
“We have actually decided that we will support the Volta Region, we specifically bought yams from Yara farmers in the Kpandai district, in the Northern Region. We are sending yams, with the monies collected from all our employees, in addition, others also brought other items like clothing, and we are also adding a corporate gift of GHC50,000. We also have a few stationery books for the children.”
Yara is a crop nutrition solutions company, supporting and helping to sustain better development in agriculture, specifically, with farmers. They also provide technology solutions in fertilizer production.

On October 26, 2023, Citi FM/Citi TV broke ground for its “OperationRebuild” initiative, which aims to build resettlement centres for people affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.
Starting with the Torkpo community in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region, the first resettlement centre will be located at a school in the area so that it can be converted back into classrooms after the floodwaters recede, and it is safe for the people to return to their homes.
Once the Torkpo structure is completed, two other areas will also benefit from the same project.
Each structure will be a dormitory-style building that can accommodate at least 200 people and will include ancillary facilities such as washrooms.
