The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) operating in the Volta and Oti Regions has reported a loss of GH¢2.2 million due to power supply disruptions affecting communities impacted by the Kpong and Akosombo Dams spillage.
Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, the ECG Regional Manager for Volta and Oti, explained to Citi News that the submersion of the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point during the dams’ spillage necessitated a shutdown, resulting in significant financial implications.
She emphasized that the unavailability of power supply during this period caused the financial loss, urging consumers to contribute by paying for electricity to bolster the company’s efficiency.
She said, “We had our Sogakope Bulk Supply Point submerged. Thankfully after the water receded, we didn’t lose any equipment, but we had to do cleaning and all of that. As a result of the flooding too you know we had to shut down the supply point and when we quantified, the power that we should have supplied for the follding, we didn’t do and it’s about 2. 2 million Ghana cedis we lost.
And of course, we incurred some other losses; cleaning the place and all that and when we add everything, it is about 2.4, 2.5 million Ghana cedis”.
