The Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, has asked the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, to find out and sanction whoever authorized the arrest of the physically challenged toll workers who picketed at the Ministry demanding their unpaid salaries last month.
Physically challenged toll workers who lost their jobs after the cessation of toll collection in 2021 have appealed to the government to pay them their promised salaries to be used as startup capital for new jobs.
Some of these toll workers staged a protest at the Roads Ministry last month in an attempt to seek an audience with the Minister but were allegedly arrested.
Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, Mr. Agbodza indicated that “For the Minister to reflect on it, find out who reported our compatriots to the police to be arrested. Is it somebody from your ministry? Because I don’t see how somebody could cause the arrest of somebody in my house if the house actually belongs to me. So the Minister should find out.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Roads and Highways said the physically challenged toll workers were paid two months extra after the cessation of toll collection by the government.
