The Head of Communication at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Dean for Public Relations Officers in government institutions, Prince Boakye Boateng has been honoured as the overall best Public Relations Officer for 2023.
He was honoured at the 4th Government Public Relations Officers Excellence Awards held in Accra on Friday, December 22.
The ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Ministry of Information and organized by the Information Services Department under the auspices of the Ministry of Information, saw several PROs coming together to socialize and enjoy the moment.
The Acting Director of the Information Services Department, David Owusu-Amoah, provided insights into the ceremony.
“The purpose of this gathering is to reward hardworking public relations officers who work in the Information Services Department. Public relations officers are integral parts of the work in the Information Services Department. What we do is to second PROs into Ministries, Departments and Agencies to act as communication managers of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies. And from time to time, we assess their performance.”
The Head of the Public Relations Coordinating Division of the Information Services Department, Ethel Codjoe Amissah, speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the ceremony, advised the PROs to continue striving hard and live up to their tasks. She also urged all the ministries to help push their PROs to do their best.
“I am expecting that next year PROs will work much harder than they are doing. Actually, there are a lot of PROs who would have done much better if they had a lot of support from their ministries, agencies, and departments. We are hoping that next year, each minister would recognize the worth and the work of the PRO and be more inclusive in the PROs.”
The overall winner, Prince Boakye Boateng, shared his contentment with Citi News.
“I feel so elated that at least the little efforts we are putting into the work that we are doing are being recognized by both our colleagues and officers at the head of affairs. This is an honour for me as the Dean and to also be honoured with this award is such a great pleasure. It is also a call for hard work; it is also a call for commitment going forward.
He urged all his colleagues to continue doing their best for the success of their ministries and themselves.
