The Public Relations Officer for the Education Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng, is lacing up his boots to contest the Asante Akim North seat, as he has picked up forms for the upcoming NPP parliamentary primaries.
Speaking to journalists after obtaining his nomination forms, Kwasi Kwarteng expressed confidence in winning the primaries.
He emphasized that there has been a clarion call from the constituents for him to contest the seat.
“It’s a clarion call—for development, for unity. It’s a call from the entire fabric, particularly the youth of the constituency. They are essentially saying two things: first, they want development anchored in progress. What the youth are saying is that they need a new face to bring the party together and achieve the desired development. Second, they emphasize the need for a leader who can unite the party in times of difficulty, especially as we talk about breaking the eight. We do not need someone who will go against the party; we need someone who can unite the party. So, I am contesting based on these principles. If we compare 2016 to 2020, our vote margin has been declining. The voter trend shows systemic apathy, especially since this MP came into office. This is someone who has lost touch with the people, and we believe he should step aside. He has done some things, but it’s time for him to exit the scene so that others can continue.”
According to Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng, he aims to leverage education to transform the constituency.
“I have always insisted that there is a link between education and socio-economic transformation. Given my background and my role in the Ministry of Education, I speak for the ministry. I have personally initiated an initiative, with the support of private efforts, to distribute textbooks to all 52 public schools, worth at least ten thousand each. We will deepen and expand this effort, ensuring that while the government has created access and introduced quality, we push most of our kids forward. Our vision is anchored in socio-economic transformation through education. In the next five years, we aim to produce about 100 engineers, 100 doctors, and, in turn, contribute to the overall development of the constituency.”
Kwasi Kwarteng is competing against four others—the incumbent Member of Parliament, Andy Appiah-Kubi, former MP Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, and two others.
