Men in our contemporary world are facing unprecedented challenges that threaten their emotional stability and prosperity in their old age. To avert this syndrome, men are required to be trained to prepare for this possibility and to take urgent and coordinated actions to enhance their resilience and security in their old age.
It was in this regard that the Area Head of the Church of Pentecost in Obuasi, Prophet David Kankam Beditor, addressed this topic during the Area Men’s Ministry’s joint service held in Obuasi on Friday.
The prophet mentioned that dark days are periods of crisis, disruption, or instability that can affect normal life. They are inevitable and unpredictable. He added that no one knows when they will strike, how long they will last, or what horrors they will bring. However, one can prepare for them.
He indicated that preparing for the dark days is not a sign of weakness or fear but of God-given wisdom and foresight and the best way to protect oneself and one’s loved ones from the worst possible scenarios. Planning before the dark days involves identifying the potential risks and threats that lie ahead, assessing their likelihood and impact, and developing strategies and actions to mitigate them.
Prophet Beditor’s exhortation was taken from the story of Isaac and his two sons (Esau and Jacob) – Genesis 27:1-11.
He denoted that despite the rivalry, favouritism, deception, anger, and discord, the account of Jacob and Esau testifies to a God who continually works within human life, His presence in the lives of people, and His unfailing works of redemption, forgiveness, and ultimate salvation.
However, Isaac’s dream of blessing Jacob would have been realized if he had done that before his dark age.
He added that as men, we may face some challenges and difficulties in life that can affect our mental and physical health, our relationships, our careers, and our happiness. These are the dark days that can test our resilience, courage, and even our faith.
He advised that even though planning before the dark days is not an easy task, it can help us reduce the negative effects of the crisis, maintain our reputation and trust, and seize the opportunities for innovation and growth that may arise from the challenge.
The prophet reminded us that the Lord God we worship is the source of our power to make money and urged us to trust in our God for the strength to work hard for a prosperous future. He further went on to elaborate on where the area’s prosperity resides. He indicated that prosperity resides in exhibiting one’s gifts and talents and providing solutions to problems.
He said that everyone has something unique and valuable to offer, and the key to success is to show what you can do, help others with their challenges, and make the most of every chance that life offers you by using your natural abilities and skills. But above all, one has to know the God who created man and always provides him with the ability to create wealth. These will help one to be fully prepared for the dark ages in life.
