Authorities at the Juaso Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region have revealed that excessive bleeding contributed to the death of accident victims at the Breku section of the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
21 people died and several others were injured in a tragic accident involving a Sprinter bus and a mini-bus on Friday, March 15, 2024. The accident was blamed on wrongful overtaking and overspeeding.
Drivers of both vehicles were among the dead.
Two of the victims are currently responding to treatment at the Juaso Government Hospital after several were treated and discharged while others were referred to other hospitals.
Medical Superintendent at the Juaso Government Hospital, Dr Edward Osei Appiah in an interview with Citi News said most of the victims bled profusely while being transported to the hospital from the accident scene.
“I will say the situation is under control now. A total of 19 persons were brought in on the day of the accident. Out of that, two arrived already dead. 10 of them were treated and then also further referred to higher facilities and then four were left behind.
“Out of the four, two have been treated and discharged and two are currently on admission and responding very well to treatment. Out of the total, there was a total of four children. All of them have been discharged. Multiple injuries from all parts of the body ranging from the face to fractures to, you know, lacerations and the near amputations, abortion injuries and all that.
“Most of the people who died were as a result of excessive loss of blood, either at the accident scene or while you were being transported.”
He indicated the families have identified the bodies of the deceased.
“The relatives have been forthcoming and those sent to our morgues have been identified,”
