Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has assured that moves are underway to secure a facility to complete the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal, popularly known as the Boankra Inland Port project in Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
The over 330 million dollar project was earlier projected to be ready by March 2024.
During an engagement with the Senior Officials of the Ghana Ports and Habour Authority, on Monday, March 25, Dr. Amin Adam emphasized that the project remains critical to the government’s growth.
“I want to commend you all for the efforts you continue to make in maintaining this facility, and also efforts made in expanding this infrastructure. At the end of it all, if the infrastructure is good, it will attract more people to use it as their preferred port to bring goods to greater West Africa.
“I sympathize with you that despite all these efforts, you are constrained financially to undertake infrastructure expansion. It’s in our interest as a country to ensure that our economy is strong. Boankra is of interest to me, I know that we have put in money, but the project is not complete.
“The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has directed that the project be completed, we are going to help the Shipper’s Council to access the facility, but under the current fund arrangements, they cannot. We have borrowing limits; we are going to create space within our remit to ensure the completion. It’s a critical project, the Ministry of Finance has been directed to support this project.”
