The Assistant Headteacher of Pokukrom Ibrahimgya Islamic JHS School, in the Ahafo-Ano South East District in Ashanti Region, Michael Chiitey has said that his outfit is still waiting on authorities to intervene in resolving the issue with the contractor who locked up their school.
The contractor locked up the school over the government’s delay in paying money owed him.
The contractor, known as Abu Masum, with carpenters, stormed the school while the students were writing their mock exams on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
He ordered the students to leave the classrooms and locked the school with padlocks despite a plea from the teachers and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
The Ahafo Ano-South East District Assembly awarded the contract to Masum Construction Limited in 2019 to build a 3-Classrooms block, staff common room, Office, and Store for 3 months with its common fund and has since failed to pay after completion.
Speaking to Citi News, the Assistant Headteacher of the school indicated that despite the ongoing teacher strike, they are still looking forward to an expedited resolution to the matter.
“So far everything is in the hands of the contractor and the DCE. We have not heard anything from them. They said they would go and sit down and get back to us but we have not heard anything. And because of the strike, we are still at home. We hope they do something about it before the strike ends.”
