Nana Adu Gyamfi Mensah, the Secretary of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA), has declared that the Association will no longer accept excuses from the National Service Scheme regarding the delayed payment of its members’ allowances.
He says the Association demands a specific date for the payment of all three months of arrears owed to its members.
This follows earlier threats of industrial action if the allowances were not promptly paid.
National Service Personnel in the public sector have voiced their struggles to meet basic needs due to the extended delay in their monthly allowance payments.
In an interview with Selorm Adonoo on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Friday, Mr Mensah revealed that despite numerous engagements with the scheme, payments were still delayed.
He stated that members had fulfilled all their obligations but were still given excuses for the non-payment.
He disclosed that two months of the previously owed five months of arrears were paid this week, leaving three months unpaid.
Mr Mensah expressed that the delayed payments were unacceptable, and the Association would not tolerate any further excuses.
He stated that the Association is demanding a payment date, and if it is not satisfactory, it will determine their next course of action.
“On record, we are being owed for three months…At national leadership, we have engaged the scheme even before the payment of the two months. Before this week we were owed five months and then at the beginning of this week, we were paid allowances for the two months which we are now left with three.
“Before then we have been engaging the scheme numerous times about why that long period that our allowances have not been paid. In some instances, they cited issues to evaluation problems to issues of e-zwich and all that.”
“But I think at this point from our perspective as national service personnel. We have done everything that we should. We have made sure that we have been evaluated. We have printed our evaluation forms, signed them and submitted them to the appropriate quarters. So, if there are any other issues that they feel that those are the reasons why we have not been paid then we the NSP are out and that means any other problem that would be from their office.
