The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Pusiga Constituency has called on Member of Parliament, Hajia Lardi Ayii Ayamba and the parliamentary candidate of the NDC in Pusiga to cease referring to residents of Widana, Pulmakom, and Kulungungu as foreigners.
This comes after allegations from the NDC in the constituency that accused the NPP of transporting foreigners to register in the ongoing National Identification Authority (NIA) registration exercise.
According to the NDC, the NPP is busing the foreigners to aid them in securing voter cards to vote for the NPP in upcoming elections. The NDC specifically accused Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the Chief Executive Officer of the Buffer Stock Company and NPP parliamentary candidate for Pusiga, of masterminding the alleged scheme of busing foreigners to register for the Ghana card in the constituency.
However, in a swift response, the NPP’s Communication Officer for Pusiga, Emmanuel Awinimi during a press conference held on Friday at Pulmakon, dismissed these claims, describing them as “baseless and unfounded” propaganda by the Member of Parliament, Hajia Lardi Ayii Ayamba, and the NDC.
“The allegations that non-Ghanaians were brought into the country to register is never true and those the NDC claims are foreigners are indigenes of Widana and Pulmakom, who are engaged in businesses in our neighbouring Togo and Burkina Faso”, the constituency Communications Officer of the NPP, Emmanuel Awinimi stated.
The NPP entreated the NDC MP, who was “born to a Yanga father and a Fulani Mother to stop referring to her kinsmen from Widana, Pulmakom, and Kulungungu as foreigners”
“If foreign status is determined by tribe, colour, or spoken language, then Hajia Lardi Ayii Ayamba herself would not qualify as a Ghanaian and could not have been elected as an MP,” the NPP Communication Officer stated.
The NPP also denied the allegation by the NDC that the Buffer Stock CEO is luring non-resident students from the Gbewaa College of Education with cash incentives to transfer their votes to Pusiga to enable vote for him in the December polls.
“The existing laws allow people who have stayed in a particular place for some time to transfer their votes. Nonetheless, the NDC should hold their guns until the transfer process is activated, so they can visit the C.I that is given us a clear guideline as to who is qualified to transfer the vote or not,” Sumaila Jafaru, Special Aid to Mr. Aludiba.
