The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Wing is demanding an apology from John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), after a group of individuals believed to be his bodyguards assaulted students at the Christian Service University (CSU).
The NPP Youth Wing is holding Mahama responsible for the actions of his alleged bodyguards and is demanding a public apology for the incident
On Wednesday, June 19, several students were allegedly assaulted by bodyguards accompanying John Mahama.
In a statement dated Thursday, June 20, the NPP Youth Wing claimed the students during the university’s 50th anniversary where Mr Mahama served as the guest of honour, shouted ‘Mahama b3 we’, meaning Mahama will lose.
A comment the NPP youth wing alleged prompted the “bodyguards to rush to the students in rambo-style and beat them in the presence of Mr Mahama and members of convocation without any reprimand.”
The NPP youth wing claimed, “We received with shock the news of assault of some students of the Christian Service University by thugs believed to be bodyguards of John Mahama, who was the guest of honour at the school’s 50th anniversary yesterday in Kumasi.
“We are demanding an unqualified apology from the former president. His desperation for power is becoming alarming. John Mahama failed terribly as president and the youth still remember, contrary to his belief that we have short memories.”
The NPP Youth Wing described the incident as “reprehensible”, demanding the NDC flagbearer to give out his bodyguards involved in the act.
“The NPP youth wing is absolutely disgusted by this recklessly irresponsible act of thuggery and hooliganism by John Mahama’s security team. This is reprehensible. We are waiting to see if John Mahama has any respect for the students of Ghana and the youth in general by his action or inaction.
“We also demand that John Mahama gives out these thugs for the law to deal with them. Otherwise, we will advise students to always go to NDC events also well prepared for eventualities, or boycott John Mahama and his NDC entirely as they portend nothing but an imminent threat and danger to them.”
