Dr Sharif Mahmud Khalid, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the owner of Rock City Hotel, Bryan Acheampong for his Trasacco home gift comment.
The North Tongu Member of Parliament Okudzeto Ablakwa claimed that Rock City is incurring losses and is unprofitable in managing the controversial 60% stake in four hotels owned by Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The Minister of Agriculture in an interview with Onua FM’s Nana Yaa Brefo, promised to gift his Trasacco home to Ablakwa if he provides evidence to back his claims that Rock City was not profitable.
“If it’s true, I have a house at Trasacco, it’s new and unused. I bought it in 2014, and I will gift it to him, and if he wants to also gift it to an NGO, on his orders, I’ll make that happen, all Ghanaians be my witness.” Bryan Acheampong said.
In an interview with Selom Adonoo on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Dr Khalid took a swipe at Mr Acheampong for displaying what he described as “childish managerial skills”.
“For me it was childish, and it reveals the kind of managerial skills he’s taking to go and manage our hotels. We’re talking serious business, and you are promising a house at Trasacco. That is another insult to us. Daring who? He should go ahead and publish his profits. Why should he dare anyone? It’s a strategy in takeovers.
“If you feel you have the muscles, flex it. You are talking about a home in Trasacco. What childish managerial skills is he already proffering before he even takes over our very important hotels that have a history and a legacy.”
He condemned the “hot air” that Bryan Acheampong is blowing, wondering if he will back out of the deal.
“If Byran is saying he wants to promote tourism, and he has all the resources, he should combine his Trasacco home he’s promising to Okudzeto Ablakwa, get resources, and get external hotel chain such as the Crown Plaza, Grand Hyatt and come and prove to us that he has the muscle to do all that he’s claiming, that way we will take him seriously.
