The Ministry of Health has admonished Ghanaians to engage in regular physical exercise to help reduce the prevalence of stroke in the country.
The ministry explained that remaining fit through physical activities can help fight a number of ailments within the human body.
[contextly_sidebar id=”D51pTWvR9q6iKoWOkSTxzGxNeGPMKN4H”]Speaking at the press launch of the 2nd edition of the International Conference on Sports, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation organized by PRMD Communications, Deputy Director Administration, Dela Kemevor who presented the sector minister’s speech noted that healthy people enjoy life.
“The Ministry of Health would want to continue to remind the Ghanaian citizenry that, regular exercise in daily lives is of great essence to the human wellbeing and fitness. The importance of physical therapy is that it treats a wide variety of medical conditions including: cardiopulmonary conditions, musculoskeletal, Orthopedic physical therapy, neurological, pediatric conditions women’s health and pelvic floor dysfunction and sports-related injuries.”
“Health plays a vital role in any living being on this earth. And nothing can be good if the health is not in good form. Healthy and physically fit persons can enjoy their lives more beautiful, and that is possible with physical therapy,” he said.
President of Africa Physiotherapist Association, Dr. Jonathan Quartey indicated that health among individuals can be improved through physiotherapy treatments if much attention is focused on it.
According to him, frequent engagement in exercise and eating healthy forms part of physiotherapy.
“Physiotherapy is health care profession and we deal directly with people who have physical disorders as a result of medical ailment and we get these patients essentially to move. Physiotherapists are movement or functions experts. We also provide preventions as far as healthy living lifestyles are a concern.”
“It is important to note that rehabilitation is big and physiotherapy is one of the key components of rehabilitation especially in the area of sports and therefore it is a wonderful idea that ICONCEPT has chosen to run this program on a yearly basis,” he said
The International Conference on Sports, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation (ICONSPT), focuses on stroke, orthopaedics and physical health conditions.
It is aimed at providing a platform to further train and develop health professionals, fitness instructors, massage therapist (Spa), stroke specialist etc.
