The Eblah Foundation, a philanthropic organization focused on education, health, and youth empowerment, has launched a skills training project to eliminate street beggars in Accra.
The program dubbed, Streetwise, was organized in collaboration with the Imam of the Abossey Okai, Alhaji Adam.
It drew over 200 participants to interact and share their key areas of focus for skills training and apprenticeship with the promise of employment after successful graduation.
Some participants expressed their joy stating that have been looking for opportunities like this to engage in activities that would help them reduce their reliance, earn a decent living, integrate effectively into society, and move up the social ladder.
The Eblah Foundation’s president, Miss Elinam Horgli, stated that the project’s goal is to train people to reduce the threat of street beggars.
“We believe that every individual, regardless of background, has the unique potential to contribute to the advancement of society if they are skilled to do so, and our goal is to facilitate sustainable livelihoods. In this light, we organized this event to collect data, understand their interests, and connect them with partner agencies that will train them and connect them to jobs.” she said.
The participants were also given food and clothing as part of the event.
In previous years, the Eblah Foundation supported projects to improve maternal health in Vume, combat open defecation in Anloga, and reduce plastic pollution in Accra.
Within the next year, the team hopes to launch additional projects to support education, health, and youth empowerment in Ghana’s most deprived areas.
