The Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency in the Central Region Alex Afenyo-Markin has hosted over 1,500 fishermen, and their wives as part of an annual get together to climax the year.
The over 1,500 fishermen and their wives expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Member of Parliament for rewarding their hard work.
“We are grateful to the Member of Parliament for rewarding our efforts,” a happy fisherman told Citi News.
Speaking to Citi News at the Wendy Lodge Hotel in Winneba during the event, the Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency Alex Afenyo-Markin said the party is to reward fishermen and their wives for their hard work during the year.
“The gesture is to motivate them to work harder next year so we get more catch,” the MP explained.
According to the Member of Parliament, since taking office he has given about 380 outboard motors, fishing nets, and wire mesh to the fishermen and their wives to help in their work.
“The wives use the wire mesh to smoke the fish we all enjoy,” he noted.
He has also given over 680 laptops to teachers in the Effutu constituency to help in teaching and learning activities.
Alex Afenyo Markin however hinted that plans are far advanced to provide the CHIPS compound in Effutu with an ambulance to aid them in their work.
He also explained that the people of Effutu would soon get a Secondary Technical School in the constituency.
The Member of Parliament added that his constituents would benefit even more from the government in the coming year since there are plans to bring more development to the people of Effutu.
“The people of Effutu would benefit more in terms of development in 2019” Alex Afenyo Markin noted.
The MP explained that this gesture of dinning with the fisherfolks at Effutu is the first of its kind in the constituency adding that this would be a routine every year to put smiles on the faces of the fisherfolks and their wives at Effutu.
