Unidentified gunmen attacked three police officers on duty at Kakpayili a suburb in the Tamale metropolis on Monday.
The gunmen also made away with two AK-47 rifles belonging to two of the policemen.
The Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Yussif Tanko told Citi News police are on a manhunt for the assailants.
“According to our men who were on duty, the armed men arrived in a Toyota Saloon vehicle. Three of them got down and the driver remained in the vehicle and immediately opened fire on the policemen. They managed to take the weapons from them and fled the scene,” he said.
He said they are doing everything possible to get back the weapons.
“We have also briefed all our men at such duties and all patrol teams to remain alert and remain professional in the conduct of their duties.”
Police arrest robbers terrorizing Oterkpolu, Yilo Krobo residents
In another development, Police in the Eastern Region have arrested two persons believed to part of a group of herdsmen operating between Oterkpolu and Asitey in the Yilo Krobo municipality of the region.
The two, Bukari Amadu and Haruna Asor who were apprehended by officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) are part of a group of six armed robbers terrorizing residents and travellers in and around Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo municipalities.
The arrest was done after the robbers ambushed two military men and a police officer working with the forestry task force in the area.
