The Metropolitan Archbishop-elect of Accra, Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie will today be enthroned at the Holy Spirit Cathedral here in Accra.

The 61-year-old until his elevation was the Bishop of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese where he’s served since 2014; and will be taking over from the Most Reverend Gabriel Palmer-Buckle who is now the Cape Coast Metropolitan Archbishop.

Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson and the Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Jean Marie Speich, will do the installation.

Bishop Palmer-Buckle, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, was transferred to the Cape Coast Archdiocese, the oldest Catholic Archdiocese in Ghana.

This was after the resignation of Archbishop Mathias Nketsiah of Cape Coast.

Bishop Kwofie was born in Apowa in the Western Region on April 26, 1958. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 23, 1988.

After his ordination, his first assignment was as an associate pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish in the Diocese of Banjul.

He has served as the President of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious Men in Ghana from 1998 to 2004.

He was also the Coordinator of the Continent Conference of Major Superiors in Africa from 2003 to 2005.

Most recently he was the First Assistant General of the Holy Spirit Concretions from 2004 to 2012.
