The Magistrate at the La District Magistrate Court on Wednesday freed a driver who was arrested for breaking road traffic laws on the Legon-GIMPA Link road as part of Citi TV’s ongoing War Against Indiscipline.
The culprit, a woman, who was put in court for driving on the shoulder of the road was in court with her husband as she pleaded guilty to charges proffered against her in court.
Citi News’ Caleb Kudah reported that the magistrate, Her Worship Juliet Osei Doudu, after educating the culprit on why she was wrong, surprised everyone by letting the accused go scot-free.
“She said even though I erred, I have been acquitted. I didn’t pay any fine. I admitted the offence and with the presence of my spouse and his support, she decided to acquit me,” the culprit said.
The magistrate stressed in court that being a strong advocate for sustainable marriages, she was impressed with the presence of the culprit’s husband in court.
The magistrate however educated the culprit on doing the right thing on the road.
“[I was arrested] for veering off the road. The traffic was heavy and I was about to turn at a junction, but few meters to the junction, I veered off and communicated with the driver in front of me. I was also indicating that I was turning and the driver allowed me to turn. When I turned I realized the police behind me and they signaled me to stop,” she said.
“The judge said I should have gotten to the junction before turning at the right angle,” she added.
Meanwhile, the only person to have been apprehended twice in Citi TV’s War Against Indiscipline campaign, Hajia Adiza Hamza has been granted bail in the sum of GHC5,000.00 with one surety to be known to the Police and a security deposit of GHC1,500.00.
She is to re-appear on the 10th of September 2019.
She pleaded not guilty to her charge.
