The National Identification Authority (NIA) has postponed the extension of the Ghana card registration exercise in the Volta Region.
The exercise which was to commence on Wednesday was to register people in densely populated areas in the Volta Region who were not captured during the registration process.
Speaking to Citi News, Corporate Communications Director at the NIA, Francis Pamdetti said, a new date for the registration will be announced.
“We issued a press statement yesterday indicating that we have postponed the mob up registration exercise in the Volta Region scheduled for today. We observed a few internal issues which we felt will tamper the exercise if we went ahead to start registration today. In the shortest possible time we will let the public know about it.”
The Volta Region is the first region after the Greater Accra region to have the mass registration exercise. The exercise started in the region on 22nd July, 2019. Many prospective applicants faced several difficulties in their quest to register for the Ghana card in the region including network challenges, frequent breakdown of machines, long queues among others.
In July, the NIA complained about network challenges in the registration process.
Applicants had queued at some 350 centres designated for the exercise as early as 7:00 am but the Authority was unable to upload data of the applicants onto the authorities severs.
In August, NIA extended the Ghana card registration exercise in the Volta Region by three weeks. The exercise which ended in the region on August 14 is supposed to start today, August 29 until September 18.
