The Adjen Kotoku Police Division has started inviting residents of Kutunse to aid in investigations into the death of a mother and her one-year-old son at Kutunse.
A mother and her son were burnt to ashes on Sunday at GHS Estate at Kuntunse in the Greater Accra Region under bizarre circumstances.
The deceased’s partner, who was the only person available at the time of the incident, was arrested.
Speaking to Citi News, the Residents’ Association Chairman of the Estate, Emmanuel Fiagbenu said they are willing to provide the police with the necessary information to get to the core of the matter.
“We are ready to make sure that justice is done either to the gentleman or to the deceased. We don’t know where the facts lie now but we are hoping that justice is served. Whatever the issue is; whether it was a suicide mission or whatever it is, they should be able to tell us.”
Chairman of the Residents’ Association, who shared details of the incident with Citi News said residents were awoken by sounds of the fire incident and placed an urgent call to the Fire Service for assistance to douse the fire.
He said a partner of the deceased woman told them they had had a misunderstanding that led to the woman locking him out and setting fire to his car.
They however later found that the house had been engulfed by fire after some persons around helped to prevent the fire from destroying the car.
Mr. Fiagbenu said a number of residents in the neighbourhood at the point had also come to assist deal with the fire situation but it took the intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to douse the fire.
Some residents said the incident appears to be a case of suicide as the woman is believed to have set the house on fire herself after torching her partner’s car.
Meanwhile, the woman’s partner is currently assisting the police in further investigations.
