Ashantigold and Liberty Professionals suffered their first defeats of the season but Aduana Stars continued their impressive form in match week 5 of the Ghana Premier League.
The Betway-backed clubs have hitherto had a wonderful start to the season, but the recent set back for both Ashantigold and Liberty will serve as wake up calls for what should be a long season ahead.
Ashantigold 0-1 Berekum Chelsea
On Saturday, Ashantigold tasted their first defeat of the season, losing 1-0 at home to Berekum Chelsea. After a goalless first half, Ashantigold goalkeeper Frederick Boateng let an easy back pass slip through his hands for Kofi Owusu to tap in for what would eventually be the only goal of the game.
The defeat has sent the Miners down to 4th position on 10 points, 3 adrift of leaders Berekum Chelsea.
Liberty Professionals 1-2 Hearts of Oak
Liberty Professionals suffered their first defeat this season, succumbing to a 2-1 loss to Accra Hearts of Oak despite taking an early lead.
Michael Sefa scored for the home side inside 1 minute with a header but the Phobians showed great resilience to score two goals in two minutes to complete the comeback. Kofi Kordzi set up the equalizer from Bernard Arthur before scoring the winner himself.
Aduana Stars 2-0 Legon Cities
Yahaya Mohammed scored his 6th goal of the season with Noah Martey contributing another as Medeama dispatched Legon Cities 2-0 in Dormaa.
The Ogya Lads have now won all 3 home games this season and move to second on the league table.
Next up for “Betway Trio” on match week 6 are cracking away encounters.
Ashantigold embark on a difficult trip to Tarkwa to face Medeama; Aduana make a short trip to Berekum to face Chelsea in a top of the table clash; and Liberty travel to WAFA.
