Police in the Upper West Region have arrested three suspected armed robbers after they robbed the District Chief Executive of Wa West, Edward Sabo Labiir and other travellers on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
The incident occurred along the Ga-Wechiau highway.
The robbers also took away an unspecified amount of money, phones, and other items after holding their victims hostage for three hours while on their way to a traditional council meeting at Wechiau.
The Police in a statement said acting upon information, it arrested suspects Shaibu Haruna, 24; Mumuni Partie, 30 and Waah Bonyinbora, 60, on Thursday, November 12, 2020, and retrieved some weapons from them.
It said the suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be arraigned.
The police however said it is on manhunt for other suspects who are currently on the run.
It further urged residents in Wa West to always seek escort from the police whenever they are travelling to or from the area.
The Wa West area is one the areas in the Upper West region affected by the scourge of robbery incidents in the region.

The Wa West District Chief Executive, Hon. Edward Sabo Labiir reported to the Police of Wechiau on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at about 9:00am that he was robbed together with some travellers along Ga – Wechiau highway.
On Thursday, November 12, 2020, acting upon information, suspects Shaibu Haruna aged 24, Mumuni Partie, 30 and Waah Bonyinbora aged 60 years were arrested and one single barrel shotgun and a totally manufactured pistol were retrieved from them.
They are in custody to be arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction.
The Rapid Deployment Force (RDF), SWAT and the Local Police of Wa West are manhunting for the rest of the other armed robbers at large.
Meanwhile, the indigenes of Wa West have been reminded of the obligation to seek for Police escort anytime they were travelling to and from their jurisdictions.
Other Districts within the Upper West Region is relatively quiet because of their engagement with Police escorts.
