South African Wines took center stage on the 16th of July 2022, as the Wines of South Africa (WoSA) wine tasting event 2022 was held in Ghana at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.
The event created by Wines of South Africa, which is a not-for-profit industry organisation that is responsible for export promotions of South African wine in key international markets, saw a massive attendance by patrons who were treated to a variety of wine brands and a very unique pairing of Ghanaian Chocolates, with a call on Ghanaian chocolate brands and manufacturers to capitalise on the export opportunities in the area of trade and marketing.
South Africa which has been a wine producer for over 360 years has staked its dominance in the wine trade over the years and has created a huge following in many African Markets including Ghana.
Wines of South Africa Grand tasting event Ghana, aims to introduce wine brands, promote education on the various wine regions, varieties, terroirs and biodiversity, which all make for their variety of distinctive and unique wines in Ghana.
Matome Mbatha, Market Manager Africa for WOSA spoke about the excitement for the collaboration between Ghanaian chocolatiers and the South Africa Wine producers and the increased collaboration that can only get better.
He emphasized the commitment of Wines of South Africa to increase the education amongst Ghanaian consumers and to promote unique pairings such as the Ghanaian chocolatiers.
Adding a few words the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, HE Grace Mason, spoke on the endless possibilities of collaborations between both countries with the strengthening of the intra-continental free trade between Ghana and South Africa under Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Also speaking at the event, CEO of WOSA Siobhan Thompson reiterated the need for more collaborations. She also revealed that the South African Wine export to other African countries has grown exponentially over the last 5 years, from 15.5 million liters to 23.4 million liters with Ghana being a central part of this growth. She emphasized the importance of the Ghanaian consumer and market as well, and reinforced her commitment to ensuring that relationship is nurtured and more collaborations included to strengthen the bond.
Hundreds of Patrons thronged the stands of popular wine brands to taste and share their opinion as many expressed their excitement about the event.
Some of the wine brands include House of Mandela, represented in Ghana by TT Brothers Ltd. UniWines KWV, Vinimark & DGB all represented in Ghana by Don Emilio, Spier Wines, Overhex Wines producers of Balance wines, BonWines, Libby’s Pride Wines, KoopmansKloof Wines producers of Cape Dreams, Bridge of Hope Wines and LaRicMal Wines.
