The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has disclosed that it possesses a total of 49 vehicles across the country, with 38 of them currently in operation.
This revelation came to light during a sitting of the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, July 4.
Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant-General provided these details while addressing the Committee. He clarified that out of the 49 vehicles owned by the department, only 30 of them are currently insured.
He added that with the limited vehicle resources available to the CAGD, with a fleet of 49 vehicles, and only 38 of them operational, the department faces challenges in efficiently carrying out its responsibilities.
“Currently, we have 49 vehicles out of which 30 have been insured and 8 are in the process of being insured and 11 are overaged and therefore we have decided to dispose of them.
“We have only 49 vehicles in the entire country and we are making processes to acquire more.”
To address the worrying issue, the chairman of the Committee, James Klutse Avedzi stated that the Committee will recommend to the Finance Ministry to allocate funds to purchase more cars for the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department
