A Professor of Political Science, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, says the results of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s special delegates conference cannot be said to be a true representation of what will happen in the party’s November 4 primaries.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won the NPP super delegates conference with a total of 629 votes, representing 68.15% of the vote.
Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong came in second with 132 votes (14.30%), while former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen placed third with 95 votes (10.29%).
Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Citi TV on Monday, Gyampo explained that “even those who have not been appointed but who have been elected are still counting on the establishment for their sustenance and for their continuous stay in office and for their possible re-election. Particularly as for those who have been appointed, the less said about them the better. But I am talking about those who have been elected, they continue to count on the establishment for their survival of their political fortunes or for their electoral fortunes. And so they voted in anticipation that tomorrow when it’s about their time to also renew their mandate, they will get the needed support to get the mandate.”
“So it is not possible for you to say that what happened over the last weekend is a true representation or can never be a true representation of what is about to come,” he said.
