The Deputy Education Minister, Rev John Ntim Fordjour has emphasised that though there have been calls to disband the National Service Scheme (NSS), it is not advisable because it has had a positive impact on the country’s development.
He stated this at the remembrance day celebration of the NSS in Accra on Thursday.
Giving the keynote address, Rev Fordjour further highlighted that the NSS needs to be supported to succeed.
“I have heard just as some of may have heard others who raise doubts about the relevance of NSS and others who are even pushing that we disband it. And I dare say that if there is any agency or institution which must be protected and even enhanced and strengthened further to deliver on its mandate, it is the NSS for all the impacts it makes in agriculture, education, health, transportation and many essential sectors of our economy.”
“So today we remember all our youths, we remember even the unsung youth and remember that we are bonded together with one direction, one destiny to transform the fortunes of this country and the NSS has played a pivotal role in this agenda and pursuit,” he stated.
